Drive a Cheap Car Until You Can Afford More

Drive a three hundred dollar car until you can afford to buy a better one. Drive a beater.

Here is the rule I would make if it were up to me. The maximum car loan anybody can get is five thousand dollars, and I do not care how much money you make.

Making more money does not change the rule, it just changes what you can reach. Save up another five thousand, take your five thousand dollar loan, and go buy a ten thousand dollar car. Do it again and buy a better one than that.

What I cannot get past is people borrowing money on something that is worth less every single month they own it. That is the part that is ridiculous, and almost nobody says it out loud because there is a whole industry built on you not thinking about it.

The car's job is to get you back and forth to work. Let it do its job while you build something that is actually going somewhere.
